Andrew Wood, the creator and owner of the Bullseye
Andrew
Wood, the creator and owner of the Bullseye format started his
career in the entertainment industry in the 1960’s working as a
booker of cabaret acts for UK nightclubs and US Military bases
in the UK, France and Germany. During this time Andrew also
worked for the Anglo American Artists Agency in London who
brought top Rock and Roll stars from America to perform in
Europe. Artists that Andrew worked with during this time
include, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins, Brenda Lee,
The Rolling Stones, The Animals, The Nashville Teens, John Lee
Hooker, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bo Diddley, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran
and The Everly Brothers to name but a few.
Whilst working in the Agency
Andrew received a phone call from Alma Cogan a top British
female singing star at the time inviting him to bring Carl
Perkins to a party at her Kensington flat as the Beatles wanted
to meet Carl. The party at Alma’s that night was like a who’s
who of show business as there were so many stars there including
the Beatles, Jane Asher, Noel Coward, Bruce Forsythe and Sammy
Davis Jnr. After the party Carl told Andrew that he was amazed
that the Beatles were so interested in him when they were the
number one attraction in the world. A few days later the
Beatles recorded an EP at Abbey Road Studios and included the
Carl Perkins song ‘Matchbox’.
Andrew left the Agency as he had
become tired of being on the road so much and opened his own
record shop ‘Sounds Funky’ in Kingston Upon Thames. This
enabled Andrew to concentrate on his first love, writing.
During this period Andrew wrote a couple of screenplays but
unfortunately he never got the green light on them.
In 1979 he started to research
game shows from around the world and to understand the reasons
behind their success. After many months Andrew decided he had
the formula that he wanted for a successful television game /
quiz show, this show was of course, Bullseye. Bullseye, was
commissioned by ATV in 1980 and after many years of success over
the entire ITV Network Bullseye established itself as an ITV
flagship show and at the same time became part of the British
psyche.
Andrew continued to write and in
the late 1980’s devised a television game show format entitled
‘The Bible Quiz’ which he sold to the German Television Network
RTL.
In 1997 Andrew wrote an action
thriller screenplay entitled ‘Sirocco’. The plot was about a
series of terrorist attacks in ten major cities across the
United States. As yet the screenplay remains unsold but Andrew
together with his friend, Film Critic Alasdair Morton adapted
the screenplay into an audio book. The audio book version of
Sirocco is now available to buy through the
Talking
Book Shop London and
Amazon.

In 2006 Andrew’s daughter Laura
joined the family business in the role of Director of Business
Affairs, overseeing all Bullseye Merchandising and Licensing of
the Brand. Since Laura joined the business she has together
with Andrew written 5 new television game show formats. Four of
these new formats were specifically written and designed for
American Television and they are currently under consideration
by an American TV network. Andrew and Laura are currently
working on taking Bullseye to America.
